Dakota Creek wins contract for second Ocean-class AGOR

Shipbuilder Dakota Creek Industries, Inc., Anacortes, Wash., is being awarded a $70,966,513 modification to previously awarded contract (N00024-10-C-2201) to exercise option for the detail design and construction of the second Ocean-class Auxiliary General Oceanographic Research (AGOR) ship.

The Navy says the 238 ft x 50 ft Ocean-class AGOR ships will be "well-equipped modern oceanographic research platforms capable of satisfying a wide range of research activities conducted by academic institutions and national laboratories involved in oceanographic research." 

Work will be performed in Anacortes, Wash. (41 percent); Seattle, Wash. (38 percent); Alpharetta, Ga. (9 percent); Hood River, Ore. (8 percent); Houston, Texas (2 percent); and Molndal, Sweden (2 percent).  Work is expected to be completed by April 2015.  Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.  The Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
