The Carnival Splendour, which was damaged during an engine room fire on Nov. 8, has been towed from San Diego to the Port of San Francisco for repairs. The engine room fire on November 8 caused the cruise ship to loss power and strand some 4,000 passengers off of the Mexican Baja Peninsula. The ship was subsequently towed to San Diego.

Repairs on the $500-million ship will be conducted by BAE Systems San Francisco Ship Repair, which operates out of the Port of San Francisco. BAE Systems has two dry docks, Dry Dock No. 2, which is 900 ft long, with a clear width of 148 ft and lifting capacity of 56,690 long tons. The repairs will reportedly cost $56 million.

Panama, the flag state for the Carnival Splendour, is investigating the engine room fire. The U.S. Coast Guard requested to join the investigation and is being supported by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
