NOVEMBER 26, 2012 — BAE Systems San Francisco Ship Repair, San Francisco, Calif., is being awarded a $13,352,948 firm-fixed-price contract for a 53-calendar day regular overhaul and drydocking of Military Sealift Command dry cargo and ammunition ship the USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4).
The ship's primary mission is to provide fuel, ammunition and dry and refrigerated stores to support U.S. Navy ships at sea, enabling them to remain underway for extended periods.
This availability is primarily for freeze chill decking structure support and repairs; installing a reverse-osmosis system to produce fresh water; inspecting the propeller shaft and stern tube; cleaning and painting of the underwater hull; and replacing the flight deck foam sprinkler piping.
The contract includes options which, if exercised, would bring the total contract value to $15,083,062.
Work will be performed in San Francisco, Calif., and is expected to be completed by Jan. 17, 2013. Contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. This contract was competitively procured via solicitation posted to the Federal Business Opportunities website, with one offer received. The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command, Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity (N32205-13-C-3012).
