SHIPS
OF THE CENTURY
One thing that always generates a
heated debate is picking the best or first "something."
Fortunately, in selecting the "Ships
of the Century," we were guided by the wisdom of you, our
readers. Many of you cast your votes (along with some very impassioned
and thoughtful pleas) via e-mail.
We also turned to our own archives, which
stretch back more than 100 years. Many of the photos
and accounts of the ships are from MARINE LOG'S ancestors, including:
International Marine Engineering, Marine Engineering and Shipping
Review, Marine Engineering and Shipping Age, or Marine Engineering
Log.
Special thanks also to knowledgeable folks such as Charles Barker
of George G. Sharp, Inc., and Jack Gilbert of John W. Gilbert
& Associates, Inc., and the volunteers of Project Liberty
Ship (www.liberty-ship.com) for their insight.
