October 31, 2007 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries plans return to cruise ship sectorJapan's Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd plans to return to cruise ship construction. MHI will reportedly start taking orders next year. Mitsubishi Heavy will begin taking orders next year, targeting the market ships that have more than 1,000 cabins and that are in the $500 million to $1 billion price range. Actual construction of cruise ships would likely commence in 2012 or later, when capacity would be available at MHI's Nagasaki shipyard. MHI has been out of the cruise ship market since delivery of the 116,000 grt Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess to Princess Cruises in 2004. |
