March 20, 2007 New bidder for Rochester ferry The City of Rochester, New York, has now rejected the offer by Euroferries for its fast ferry, the Spirit of Ontario, which is currently docked in Nova Scotia. The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports that the city has a new leading bidder on the high-speed ferry, and that city officials say this one has the financial wherewithal to close the deal in 30 days. "We have one offer that's credible. We hope to get more," the newspaper quotes City Corporation Counsel Thomas Richards as saying. The newspaper also reports Richards as saying that once all the ferry business is resolved, the city might consider putting out a request for proposals from interested ferry operators to restart a private Rochester-to-Toronto service. The city still is paying rent at the Toronto terminal.
