June 7, 2007 New barge yard on Arkansas River According to www.nwaonline.com, a new tug and barge construction yard will soon start operations at Fort Smith, Arkansas. Fort Smith Shipyard LLC has secured 10 acres of land along the Arkansas River at 4601 Clayton Expressway to manufacture barges and tugboats, the report quotes owner Dave Reidt of St. Louis as saying.
