July 20, 2007 BIW to build DDG-1000 lead ship? According to the Maine Times Record, a Bath Iron Works spokesman on Wednesday confirmed that the Navy is discussing a plan to have its prototype DDG-1000 destroyer built in Bath instead of at Northrop Grumman's Ingalls shipyard. Such a move could help BIW avoid a scheduled gap in the BIW workload between the final Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, to be delivered between 2010 and 2011, and its DDG-1000 successor, in 2012.
