![]() March 24, 2006 Maersk Supply signs massive AHTS order with Aker Yards
Maersk Supply Service has signed a contract worth NOK 3.3 billion (nearly $500 million) with Aker Yards AS, Norway. It covers construction of eight new 15,300 bhp VS 472 anchor handling tug supply vessels. The first vessel is expected to be delivered during the first quarter of 2008. The other vessels are expected to follow at two month intervals. The contract includes options for two sister vessels. Roy Reite, responsible for Offshore & Specialized Vessels in Aker Yards comments: "We are very pleased that AP. Moller - Maersk as a large international shipowner again chose to cooperate with us. This contract is the largest contract signed in the Offhore & Specialized Vessels business area to date, and will give activity well into 2009. It will also create considerable opportunities for numerous of our equipment suppliers and network of subcontractors". As part of the contract, Maersk Supply Service has options for an additional two vessels. The above mentioned vessels will join the current Maersk Supply Service fleet of more than 60 vessels.
