June 7, 2006 Samsung announces box ship orders worth $1.5 billion Samsung Heavy Industries(SHI) has announced orders for 14 containerships worth US$1.5 billion from Naviera Daniela of Panama and Danaos of Greece. The ships consist of eight Post Panamax class ships and six Panamax class ships, scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2009.They will operate between Europe and Asia. SHI has been constructing a steady stream of these types of containershops, and expects to reduce the ship design period, enhance productivity, and reduce production costs in the construction of these ships. |
