January 2, 2006 New Rochester mayor faces tough ferry decision
The city of Rochester New York has a new mayor--former police chief Robert Duffy. Among the tough choices Duffy faces is what to do about the fast ferry that Rochester bought last February with a $40 million loan. The ferry is operated between Rochester and Toronto, Canada, by Bay Ferries Great Lakes as manager for the city-owned Rochester Ferry Co. Delayed start up of the operation contributed to its making a $10 million loss in its first 10 months. The City Council last month gave tentative approval to additional borrowing to keep the ferry venture going. Now the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle Reports Mayor Duffy as saying he'll decide this week on whether he'll support finding another $11.5 million for the project. |
