Roekke gets rolling on shipping line plan
Kjell Inge Roekke, who controls Kvaerner, looks to be moving ahead with plans to operate the two containerships building at Kvaerner Philadelphia in competition with existing Jones Act operators.
A company called OceanBlue Express, Inc., has started posting job vacancies on Yahoo. It describes itself as "a domestic offshore ocean carrier." It is looking for customer service representatives and a sales manager in San Ramon, CA, and a pricing manager and "marketing communications professional" at the same location. It is also looking for sales managers in Los Angeles and Honolulu.
The applicant for the Hawaii job should have the "ability to attract and retain new customers in the transportation business of customers shipping between CA & HI" and "experience in the transportation of refrigerated cargo" will be a plus.
The website http://www.oceanblueexpress.com is online--but as of today was still "under construction". That site is registered to OceanBlue Express, Inc. with the same street address in San Ramon, CA as Aker Kvaerner Metals. The email contact shown in the site registration details has an @akerkvaerner.com address.
Meantime, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin yesterday reported that "C. Bradley Mulholland, who retired Jan. 1, 2004, after more than 38 years with Matson, has held recent preliminary discussions on entering the market with the state Harbors Division and Waldron Steamship Co., which books pier space, according to people associated with those organizations."
