Color Line Super Speed

November 2, 2005

Color Line and Aker Yards sign LOI

Aker Yards and Color Line have signed a Letter of Intent to build two passenger day ferries in 2007-2008 for operation between Denmark and Norway.

The contract value is approximately Euros 232 million (about $279 million).

Color Line says the ferries will represent an "absolutely new transportation solution."

The concept has the working title "Color Line Superspeed" indicating that the ferries will be designed for a high service speed--though no specific speed has yet been mentioned.

Each vessel will be about 211 m long and 26 m wide with about 2,000 lane meters of vehicle space and a passenger capacity of 1,800.

A further vessel could be in the works. Color Lines and Aker Yards have also concluded a design agreement for a potential new cruise ship that would be delivered in Spring 2009.

Color Line has ordered two previous vessels from Aker Yards.

Color Fantasy--the world's largest cruise ship with car decks--was delivered in December 2004. Production of a sister ship, Color magic, started at Aker Finnyards Rauma yard yesterday
