Ferry case doctor enters guilty plea
Physician William Thursi yesterday pleaded guilty to charges that he falsified the Merchant Marine physical examination report of Staten Island ferry pilot Richard A. Smith by falsely answering "no" to a question on blood pressure. (you can read the New York Newsday report on the plea here).
Smith became unconscious at the controls of the Staten Island ferry Andrew J. Barberi when it slammed into a pier on October 15, 2003, with the loss of eleven lives.
