K Line order cape size bulker from Shanghai yard

Japan's Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. ("K"Line) has placed an order for a 177,000-dwt cape-sized bulk carrier at the SWS (Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.) unit of of CSSC (China State Shipbuilding Corporation).

This is K-Line's second a shipbuilding order in China following an order in 2003 for three car carriers.

The signing ceremony for the bulker contract took place July 20, 2005 in Beijing. CSSC's President Chen Xiaojin, "K" Line's President Hiroyuki Maekawa and 60 others involved in the project participated in the ceremony celebrating this latest shipbuilding order.

The 177 type bulker will have a length of 292 meters and breadth of 45 meters. Delivery is set for September 2008.
