Tokyo MOU plans crackdown on SOLAS and MARPOL operational requirements
Between September 1 and November 30, port states that are members of the Tokyo MOU plan a CIC (concentrated inspection campaign) that will target "aspects of operational and control provisions of SOLAS and MARPOL conventioms on all vessels, regardless of type."
Among other things, the major areas covered by the CIC include maintenance and operation procedures of fire protection systems and life-saving appliances, crew familiarity of drills and emergency duties, maintenance and operation arrangements of GMDSS, safety of navigation arrangements and procedures and pollution prevention procedures.
Eighteen countries are members of the Tokyo MOU, which covers the Asia-Pacific region.
