SS United States saved from scrappers?

STACK LIGHTING

Here's a nice story for the July 4 weekend.

The SS United States Conservancy is holding a National Flagship Celebration in Philadelphia tonight, across the street from the famed liner's current pier.

The event has been billed as a stack lighting, but an announcement is expected to reveal that NCL has agreed to sell the ship to the conservancy for $3 million and that the conservancy will start paying the $60,000 a month tab for the ship's upkeep at the pier.

We don't like to blow surprises, but that's what the Wall Street Journal is reporting.

This probably means the conservancy will be looking for more money, more urgently.
