Vigor Marine to overhaul veteran NOAA ship
Ship repairer Vigor Marine LLC, Portland, Oregon, has been awarded a $14,711,510. contract for a Major Repair Period (MRP) overhaul of the NOAA ship RAINIER.
A portion of this project is being funded by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
The RAINIER entered its 41st year of service in FY 2009 and needs major capital investment in mechanical and electronic systems to maintain the vessel at its current operational tempo until a replacement vessel is built and delivered. Major Repair Periods have proven to be an effective tool for extending a ship's service life.
