Hot water barrier shields ships from pirate boardings
Rotterdam-based Secure Marine has come up with a new way of protecting ships against pirate boardings. The Secure Waters system curtains the ship with a shield of water heated to a painful, but not lethal, 80 degrees Celsius. In addition to providing an "agony barrier," the ultra hot water makes the ship's sides slippery. The system uses heat from the engine exhaust to heat the water.
