Marcon brokers sale of single skin ocean tank barge

Marcon International, Inc., Coupeville, Washington, reports that NuStar Energy of Texas has sold its U.S. flag, 55,345 bbl, ocean tank barge "Statia Supplier" (ex--Energy 5502, LMI 5502, San Juan Sun, Mac 56, McAllister 56) to Moby Marine Corporation of Stuart, Florida.

Built in 1969 at Wyatt Industries in Houston, TX, the 309 ft x 64 ft x 19 ft 5 in single skin, tank barge has two segregations and zinc coated tanks. She was employed in clean petroleum service primarily in the southern U.S. and Caribbean waters.

The 6,590 dwt barge was rebuilt in 1986 and carries a current U.S. Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection for Grade "A" & Lower products through July 2010. Barge is classed ABS +A1 Oil Tank Barge, Unrestricted Service and has an International Load Line.

With a notched stern, smooth chines on near symmetrical fore and aft rakes, the barge has proven over the years to be a fast towing barge.

"Statia Supplier" was located in the Caribbean at the time of the sale. Moby Marine is scheduled to tow the barge, using its own tug, to a South American shipyard for conversion to alternative service.

This is the first barge sold by Marcon from Nu Star and its eighth transaction completed with Moby.

NuStar Energy L.P. is one of the largest asphalt refiners and marketers in the U.S. and its second largest independent liquids terminal operator. Moby Marine Corporation is a small family owned and operated organization with dock facilities located in Fort Pierce, Florida offering commercial towing and and cargo movements through-out North, Central and South America.

Marcon acted as sole broker in this sale. So far this year Marcon International Inc., as shipbrokers, has sold or chartered 18 vessels and barges. Sales of several additional vessels and barges are expected to be concluded within the next few weeks. Since Marcon's first sale in 1983 it has brokered a total of 1,048 vessels and barges for sale or charter.
