Bollinger delivers 60,000 bbl tank barge to Bouchard
Bollinger Marine Fabricators, L.L.C., Amelia, La., has delivered B. No. 262, a double hull 60,000 bbl oil tank barge built to OPA 90 requirements to Bouchard Ocean Services, Inc., Melville, NY.
Barge B. No. 262 is a manned ocean, clean oil tank barge measuring 350-ft long, with a 70-ft beam and a depth of 25-ft. It has ten cargo compartments and two separate pumping systems. Two Byron Jackson cargo pumps are driven by Detroit series 60 engines, and the deck is equipped with two Techcrane model F10-50 electric-hydraulic cranes.
Morton S. Bouchard, III, President and CEO of Bouchard Affiliates said the barge is the first of three to be delivered within the next 10 months that will conclude a double hull construction business plan implemented in 1992 under which Bouchard will have replaced its entire single hull fleet with flush deck double hull barges as mandated with the enactment of OPA90.
"Upon completion of this building phase," he said, "Bouchard will be pursuing other areas to improve and build the infrastructure of our company."
In addition to the B. No. 262, Bollinger is building a near sister ship, B. No. 264, another 60,000 bbl clean oil barge scheduled for delivery in March 2010 from Bollinger Marine Fabricators, and B. No 284, an 80,000 bbl manned ocean, clean oil barge measuring 399-feet long, with a 74-foot beam and a depth of 28-feet, scheduled to deliver from Bollinger Gretna in June 2009.
"Bollinger is delighted to deliver the B. No. 262 on-budget and on-schedule, and we are very pleased to continue to play a vital role in Bouchard's build programs. Our talented workforce continues to provide superior craftsmanship, exemplifying the Bollinger tradition," said Chris Bollinger, Bollinger's executive vice president of new construction.
