October 22, 2002 Fire-gutted cruise newbuild towed The Japan Times reports that the Diamond Princess, the 113,000 grt cruise newbuilding damaged in an Oct. 1 fire, has been towed to a second Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. dock for repairs. The ship has been transferred from MHI's Nagasaki shipyard to the smaller of the two large dry docks at MHI's Koyagi docks, located about 5 km south of the Nagasaki yard. The 36-hour fire gutted 40 percent of the total floor space of the 14-deck liner. On October 10, MHI and the customer, P&O Princess Cruises, agreed to continue with construction of the ship.
